Dive Rite Wings Worry Free Guarantee

New Dive Rite Wings XT Series with Lifetime Guarantee

With the launch of the new XT line, Dive Rite has the toughest line of wings available in the sport diving market. Coupled with the SuperFabric technology, they also launched a new, tough 210 laminated bladder. It’s the same material used in lift bags and surface markers. It’s pinch-proof, poke-proof and snag-proof and, because Dive Rite stands behind this product, they now offer a lifetime warranty on all 2012 model EXP and XT Wings that carry the 210 bladder.

When divers dismantle their wings to clean them, they often ask why the bladder is larger than the outerbag.  Answer…the bladders are bigger than the outerbag to keep stress off of the seams. Due to the restriction of the outerbag, the bladder isn’t able to inflate to its full size. That’s a good thing.  And as a side note, divers don’t need to take their wing apart to clean it. Just run fresh water through it, dump and inflate overnight.

Technical Scuba Divers…PADI launches Sidemount Course

The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) today has launched the first of two exciting new sidemount programs for Technical Scuba Divers. The PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course is available now, while the PADI Recreational Diver Sidemount Specialty course will be available soon.

Originating in the cave diving community, sidemount diving configurations attract the attention of both open-circuit tec divers and recreational divers. Sidemount diving offers options for carrying equipment, helps reduce lower back strain and provides a backup gas supply.  Equipment manufacturers continue to meet the increased demand for sidemount by manufacturing dedicated buoyancy control devices, harnesses and regulator configurations.

The PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course covers the use of sidemount configuration for technical diving. It has been developed for recreational divers who want to use sidemount as they enter open-circuit tec diving, as well as experienced tec divers who want to transition to sidemount.

To qualify for the PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course divers need to be certified as at least PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization), have 30 or more logged dives and be at least 18 years old.  Being certified as a PADI Enriched Air Diver certification is also recommended.

PADI TecRec Update – Tec 65 and Tec Trimix (Reminder)

Here is a reminder about an update to the PADI TecRec Trimix course first detailed in the First Quarter 2010 Training Bulletin.

Although the diver manual and exam remained unchanged, an additional certification level—Tec 65—was added. PADI Tec Trimix Instructors may continue using the Tec Trimix Instructor Guides for both Tec 65 and Tec Trimix with an addendum (product no. 10166) that details the course changes and provides an additional Knowledge Development segment. Additionally, the update also altered the depth limits for individual training dive depths, specifically dives 5 – 8. The depths for each level are as follows:

Tec 65

Dive Minimum Depth Maximum Depth
Dive One None 10 metres/30 feet
Dive Two 27 metres/90 feet 50 metres/165 feet
Dive Three 30 metres/100 feet 50 metres/165 feet
Dive Four 40 metres/130 feet 55 metres/185 feet
Dive Five 45 metres/150 feet 65 metres/210 feet

Tec Trimix

Dive Minimum Depth Maximum Depth
Dive Six 55 metres/180 feet 70 metres/230 feet
Dive Seven 65 metres/215 feet 80 metres/265 feet
Dive Eight 75 metres/245 feet 90 metres/300 feet

DG05 Software Update

DG05 Software Update!

Product Awareness Notice

January 2012

Product Affected – DG05 Dive computer
Batch Affected – All units shipped during December 2011.
Function Affected – Display of time remaining at a decompression stop.

Awareness level – Non Critical

Topic:  On the dive screen the DG05 decompression computer displays a decompression time at the next decompression stop/current ceiling. This is displayed in minutes at the appropriate depth. While on the dive screen, a long hold of the right button displays a screen (‘Deco’ screen) that shows all the decompression stops with all the times, on one page.

The reported issue is in the display of the stop time in minutes on the dive screen (not the additional ‘Deco’ screen, which remains accurate). If the decompression time is in excess of 9 minutes (i.e 10 minutes) then the ’0′ will not be displayed. Hence the display will move from 9 minutes to displaying 1 minute as the time increases instead of the required 10 minutes.

In this example the actual time you will be forced to stay at the decompression stop is still 10 minutes (an early ascent will force warnings). You will not be allowed to violate the decompression ceiling without receiving warnings.

This is only a display issue and does not affect decompression stop calculations.

The correct ‘Total Time to Surface’ is still displayed on the dive screen as are all the correct times on the ‘Deco’ screen.    As another example, if the time should be 20 minutes then a ’2′ will be displayed instead of a ’20′. Then the count down will be ’1′ (instead of 19) and continue to display ’1′ until the actual time gets to 9 minutes then it will display ’9′.

Corrective Action A software update is available from factory. Please contact 888-383-DIVE for further information.
